Minutes of Rankin County Historical Society Meeting January 22, 2013

Members of the Brandon Historical and Genealogical Society hosted the Rankin County Historical Society in a joint session on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, 7:00 P.M. at the Supervisors Room in the Courthouse Annex.

President Dan Fairly welcomed the group and opened the session with prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Vice President Murphy Adkins introduced the speaker, Bill Gatlin. Mr. Gatlin is an architectural historian with the Preservation Division of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. Mr. Gatlin discussed the various divisions of MDAH and the primary focus of each group.

At the conclusion of Mr. Gatlin’s interesting and informative talk he answered questions from the audience. A brief business meeting for the BHGS was conducted by Judge Fairly.

Treasurer John Collier reported a balance of $7798.13 in the BHGS bank account.

A gift of $100 to First Baptist Church in memory of Margaret Murray was approved on the motion of Murphy Adkins, seconded by Joan Singletary.

Anne Vanderleest, president of the RCHS announced some upcoming events.

      January 26, Mississippi Genealogical Seminar in Canton.

      January 29, 12:00 Noon, RCHS and the Brandon Library will sponsor Munch on History, “Finding Hooch and Homicide on the Gold Coast”. Speaker will be Tom Henderson, librarian of Millsaps College.

      March 26, 7:00 P.M. shared meeting with Brandon Genealogical and Historical Society in the Brandon Library.

       April 20, Rankin County Heritage Day.

There were 14 members and guests present. The meeting was adjourned.
