Resources for researching Rankin County history and genealogy include materials stored at the Brandon Public Library. In the future more materials will be added to this website.
*A listing of Rankin County marriage licenses issued from November 15, 1899 to April 28, 1923, recorded in Volumes 9 through 15, is contained in this index. The index was compiled by Joan Singletary and Bill Duchie for the Brandon Public Library and the Rankin County Historical Society from microfilm of the original records. This microfilm is available in the Genealogy Room at the Brandon Public Library.
The listing is indexed by both the Groom’s name and the Bride’s name. Some of the microfilm is very difficult to read not only because of the handwriting as well as the deterioration of the original copy. Often the spelling of the name might be inaccurate because of the clerk’s understanding of the name. In deciphering handwriting, it is not possible to be 100 percent accurate, and we regret any inaccuracies.
An asterisk (*) following the date indicates that the marriage license was not executed.
An X (x) following the date indicates that the marriage license was voided.
Parentheses enclosing a name or title denote that we were unable to determine the name or title with reasonable accuracy.
This transcription of the microfilm was completed and printed in July 2009. A searchable CD of these marriage records is also available in the Genealogy Room of the Brandon library.
